A man in his 20s who posted online that he would carry out a knife attack targeting the National Pension Service turned himself in to police.
Jeonju Deokjin Police Station in North Jeolla said on the 21st that it apprehended a person identified as A on suspicion of posting a threatening message targeting random people on an online community, including public intimidation, and is investigating.
A is suspected of writing a post titled "National Pension Service knife rampage today" on an online community at about 12:46 p.m. on the 20th.
Responding to a netizen's report at the time, police searched closely around key facilities, including the National Pension Service headquarters and the Fund Management Headquarters in the North Jeolla Innovation City, and prepared for any contingency.
On the day of the crime, around 6 p.m., A went to the police station in person and admitted wrongdoing. During questioning, A was said to have noted that the person fabricated provocative falsehoods to draw the attention of internet users and get a reaction.
