Singer Kim Jang-hoon, who has led efforts to raise awareness of Dokdo, has become the face of the Korea Coast Guard that protects safety and sovereignty in the East Sea.
The Donghae Regional Korea Coast Guard said on the 21st that it appointed Kim Jang-hoon as an honorary ambassador at the main auditorium of its headquarters building.
The Donghae Korea Coast Guard conferred the honorary rank of senior inspector on Kim Jang-hoon, recognizing the symbolism of his actions so far and their positive influence. Kim has led efforts to raise awareness of Dokdo through a variety of activities, including performances on Dokdo, swimming crossings, baduk matches, and a photo-taking campaign.
Kim Jang-hoon said, "Dokdo is the pride of our nation that we must all protect together," and added, "I am honored to be appointed an honorary ambassador of the Donghae Regional Korea Coast Guard, which protects the East Sea and Dokdo of the Republic of Korea, and I will do my best to widely inform the public of Dokdo's value and the role of the Coast Guard."
At the event, Kim Jang-hoon, along with employees and local residents, chanted together a pledge for maritime safety: "Life jackets are life savers." Going forward, Kim will join hands with the Donghae Korea Coast Guard to carry out various activities, including protecting maritime sovereignty over Dokdo and observing maritime safety rules.
After the event, Kim Jang-hoon held a "communication and harmony concert." On the 22nd, Kim is also scheduled to perform in collaboration with the Korea Coast Guard band.
