Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, said on the 20th that it held a briefing on the results of the advisory committee activities of the "Renaissance Yongin 2.0 promotion planning group for the ninth popularly elected administration" in the city hall video conference room.
Attending the briefing were Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin; the first and second vice mayors; 15 bureau and department heads at city hall, including Directors General; and seven advisory committee members, for a total of 25 people. Participants shared the results of their review of the ninth-term pledges and key tasks.
Yongin operated the Renaissance Yongin 2.0 promotion planning group from June 15 to July 20. The aim was to steadily carry forward the major achievements and administrative direction of the eighth-term "Renaissance Yongin" and objectively examine the ninth-term pledges and core projects.
The planning group was co-headed by the first and second vice mayors, with experts in various fields such as administration, urban development, transportation, culture, and industry serving as advisory members.
The planning group reviewed the feasibility of the ninth-term pledges, project priorities, and concrete execution strategies. As a result, it set the ninth-term administrative policy to inherit the achievements of the eighth-term "Renaissance Yongin" and advance the city's flagship projects. In consideration of administrative continuity, it decided to maintain the overarching policy framework.
At the meeting, the planning group proposed reorganizing the seven key goals and 21 development strategies from the previous eighth term into five administrative goals and 15 development strategies as the ninth-term administrative policy.
The five goals proposed this time are: ▲ rise as a global semiconductor hub city ▲ achieve balanced development and a self-sufficient city ▲ build a happy city enjoyed by all residents ▲ create a sustainable growth eco-city ▲ realize trusted administration together with residents.
The planning group reviewed all ninth-term pledges, consolidated overlapping or similar items, and listed 225 pledge projects to be pursued. Representative projects include promoting designation as a global semiconductor special zone (cluster), creating a (tentative) semiconductor industry cooperation fund, supporting the establishment of a special-needs school, supporting the establishment of an AI arts convergence high school, and promoting the creation of a railway construction fund to build a stable rail network.
The planning group also made 20 policy recommendations on city administration, including institutionalizing a system to have traffic generators bear traffic improvement measures for developments above a certain scale, adjusting the composition ratio of the Urban Planning Committee, and ensuring stable water supply measures in response to water shortages.
The city will have the working departments review the opinions of the advisory members included in the report, promptly finalize the ninth-term pledge projects, and draw up concrete implementation plans, including schedules by project and funding measures.
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin said, "Although the planning group's activities conclude today, if you learn of good policies from other cities, please feel free to contact us," adding, "Beyond the pledged projects, we will pool our wisdom to shape Yongin's future."
