Singer Psy set another milestone that will go down in Korea's pop music history with the mega-hit "Gangnam Style," which once shook the world.
Psy's agency P Nation said on the 20th that the music video for Gangnam Style surpassed 6 billion cumulative views on YouTube on the afternoon of the 17th.
This comes 14 years after it was first released to the world on July 15, 2012. After the video reached the 5 billion view mark at the end of December 2023, it added 1 billion more plays in about 2 years and 7 months.
Gangnam Style gained worldwide popularity at the time of its release with its cheerful, witty lyrics, an original "horse-riding" dance anyone could follow, and stylish visuals that elicited laughs. In December of the same year, it set a record as the first in YouTube history to surpass 1 billion views, and it also placed No. 2 for seven consecutive weeks on the Hot 100, the main singles chart of Billboard in the United States.
P Nation explained, "The surpassing of 6 billion views for the Gangnam Style music video is a symbolic milestone in K-pop history and a case that shows the strength of content that continues to be loved across borders and generations."
Psy celebrated the 6 billion view milestone by taking the stage in the Gangnam Style music video outfit at the Gwacheon stop of "Psy Summer Swag 2026" the previous day.
