Singer-actor IU's side has begun proceedings in a U.S. court to identify the author of malicious posts.
Agency Edam Entertainment said on the 20th that it filed for discovery with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on the 15th to identify the author of malicious posts about IU.
IU's side believes a commenter, identified as A, defamed her by posting a total of 52 false posts through an SNS account. However, they said they have faced difficulties securing materials to use in an ongoing domestic defamation suit because they have not been able to identify A's identity.
In response, IU's side filed for discovery against Meta, requesting the submission of subscriber information such as name, address, phone number, email, and IP address.
A is said to have spread various malicious rumors about IU, including plagiarism allegations, false claims related to China, false claims about overseas performance, suspicions of marketing using the deceased, allegations of media control and opinion manipulation, and posts that linked song lyrics to a national tragedy.
IU's side continues to pursue legal action over malicious posts. Last year alone, they filed criminal complaints and civil suits against a total of 96 people.
