The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) will review on the 20th the decision to impose a regular six-month suspension on Paichai High School's baseball team from entering national tournaments.
According to the sports community on the 19th, the disciplinary review subcommittee of the KSOC's Sports Fairness Committee decided on the 14th to place a reassessment of Paichai High School's discipline on the next agenda.
The disciplinary review subcommittee of the KSOC's Sports Fairness Committee will deliberate the related agenda on the 20th and reach a conclusion the same day. The reassessment result by the KSOC's Sports Fairness Committee serves as the final appeal on disciplinary actions by affiliated organizations and takes effect immediately upon resolution.
Depending on the review outcome, it will also be decided whether Paichai High School's baseball team can compete in the 54th Bonghwang Flag National High School Baseball Tournament. Opening on the 6th of next month, the Bonghwang Flag is the last national tournament Paichai High School can enter this year. If the KSOC's Sports Fairness Committee reduces the suspension to one month or less, Paichai High School's baseball team can also compete in the Bonghwang Flag.
Some players of Paichai High School's baseball team, during their game against Gwangju Jeil High School (Gwangju Ilgo) at the 81st Blue Dragon Flag National High School Baseball Championship on the 29th of last month, chanted slogans toward the opposing team's dugout: "Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go to Starbucks," and "Tank Day."
As controversy grew that they disparaged the May 18 Democratization Movement, the Korea Baseball Softball Association's Sports Fairness Committee on the 1st resolved to hand Paichai High School's baseball team a six-month competition suspension and a forfeit of the remaining Blue Dragon Flag games.
Players of Paichai High School's baseball team and others visited Gwangju Ilgo to apologize, and with Gwangju Ilgo, its alumni association, and May organizations requesting leniency, they filed for a reassessment with the KSOC's Sports Fairness Committee on the 8th.
