Prime Minister Han Seong-sook on the 18th ordered, "Fully mobilize all available equipment and personnel to carry out rapid emergency repairs to minimize inconvenience for residents in areas hit by heavy rain."
Han held a meeting in the morning at Government Complex Seoul to review the response to the heavy rain and said, "There were no casualties, but there was flooding of dwellings and roads and damage to individuals' property," adding, "We extend our condolences to the people who suffered losses."
From the evening before, a torrential downpour dumped what was truly a "water bomb" across the Seoul metropolitan area and in places including Daegu and North Gyeongsang, as well as other parts of the country. The sudden cloudbursts flooded dwellings and roads and left residents isolated, with damage reported one after another.
Han also noted, "In some areas including North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong, and Gangwon, heavy rain is forecast for tonight and early tomorrow, raising the risk of landslides," and urged, "Please do everything possible so residents in high-risk areas can evacuate preemptively."
Meanwhile, the rain is expected to continue through tomorrow, mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon, North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong, and northern North Gyeongsang.
