The Seoul city government said on the 17th it is moving into preemptive emergency response as heavy rain is expected across the capital.
A heavy rain preliminary advisory is currently in effect across Seoul. Forecasts call for strong, heavy rain from early tomorrow morning through midday. From this evening through the 19th, expected rainfall in Seoul is 100–200 mm (more than a maximum of 300 mm).
Accordingly, the Seoul city government activated its Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters emergency response system from 10 p.m. the same day. It is restricting access to all 29 rivers and four riverside parking lots in the city. In particular, it issued level 1, the "caution" stage, regarding rainfall conditions, and 347 Seoul officials and 2,859 district officials are on duty to prepare for the downpour.
It also inspected landslide-prone areas and construction sites, and conducted advance visits or relayed weather information by phone and text to 925 households considered disaster-vulnerable living in semi-basement homes. In addition, it inspected and cleaned storm drains and assigned personnel to underpasses to prevent any potential safety accidents.
The Seoul city government plans to continue monitoring weather and river conditions and respond to the downpour.
