Composer Yu Jae-hwan, 36, who stood trial on charges of forcibly molesting a woman he met for the first time, also received a fine on appeal.
The Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Appeals Division 3-1 (Presiding Judges Jang Yun-seon, Cho Gyu-seol, and Yu Hwan-woo) on the 16th dismissed the appeal in the appellate verdict for Yu's forcible molestation case. As a result, the first trial court's sentence of a 5 million won fine and 40 hours in a sex offender treatment program was upheld.
In June 2023, Yu posted on his social media (SNS) an offer saying he would "make music without receiving a single won in composition fees," and after getting in touch, he was brought to trial on charges of forcibly molesting the victimized woman he came to know.
The appeals court said, "The victim's statement appears credible, and it appears the sentence was determined in the first trial by synthesizing the evidence against the defendant," adding, "It is difficult to accept the defendant's claim of unjust sentencing because there appear to be no special circumstances for mitigation."
