The Supreme Court's ruling on the appeals in first lady Kim Keon-hee's Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case, the Unification Church bribery case, and the Myung Tae-gyun polling case will be broadcast live.
The Supreme Court's second division (presiding Justice Kwon Young-jun) decided on the 15th to broadcast live the ruling hearing for Kim's case to be held at 2 p.m. on the 24th.
This is the second live broadcast of a division's ruling, following the appeals hearing on the 9th in the case involving former President Yoon Suk-yeol's obstruction of arrest and other charges.
The scheduled ruling date was the 16th, but it was postponed to the 24th after special counsel team Min Joong-ki requested a delay.
The Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Agreement Division 33 (Chief Judge Lee Jin-gwan) found former President Yoon guilty of receiving Myung Tae-gyun's polling services for free and sentenced him to two years in prison. The special counsel team asked the Supreme Court the previous day to postpone Kim's ruling date to review the written judgment in that case.
From Oct. 2010 to Dec. 2012, Kim is accused of participating in Deutsch Motors stock manipulation and taking illicit gains worth 810 million won, in violation of the Financial Investment Services and Capital Markets Act.
In Apr.–Jul. 2022, through "Geonjin" Jeon Seong-bae, she allegedly received a request for support for the denomination from former Unification Church World Headquarters head Yoon Young-ho and took a Graff diamond necklace worth 62 million won and two Chanel bags worth a total of 20 million won, on charges of brokerage bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
From Jun. 2021 to Mar. 2022, she is also accused of conspiring with the former president to receive polling results worth 270 million won from a person surnamed Myung, in violation of the Political Funds Act.
In the first trial, only part of the Unification Church bribery charges was found guilty, and she was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison. In the second trial, all Unification Church bribery charges were found guilty, and part of the Deutsch Motors stock manipulation participation charges was also found guilty, resulting in a sentence of four years in prison and a fine of 50 million won. The Myung Tae-gyun polling receipt charge was found not guilty, as in the first trial.
