The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on the 15th it appointed Lee Su-ho, director general for maritime safety, as the new head of the Northern Sea Route Promotion Headquarters (senior executive service grade A).
A graduate of the 40th civil service examination, Lee, the new headquarters chief, is regarded as an expert in ports and maritime safety.
Born in 1970, the Deputy Minister graduated from Daeryun High School in Daegu and the business administration department at Kyungpook National University. From 2002 to 2004, the Deputy Minister earned a master's degree in public administration at the University of Colorado in the United States.
Since entering public service in 1997, the official has served as director of port logistics planning at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), director of fishing village and aquaculture policy, Director for Planning and Finance, director general for fishing village and aquaculture policy, senior administrator at the Office of the Secretary to the President for agriculture and maritime affairs, and director general for ports at the MOF. From Aug. 2023 to Feb. 2026, the official served as minister-counselor at the Embassy in the United Kingdom and the Permanent Mission to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and after returning, worked as director general for maritime safety at the MOF.
Following former Deputy Minister Nam Jae-heon, who was appointed Vice Minister, the Deputy Minister becomes the second head of the Northern Sea Route Promotion Headquarters and will oversee the Northern Sea Route promotion policy, international cooperation, and related industry development, which are national tasks of the Lee Jae-myung administration.
