Law firm Barun (managing partners Lee Dong-hoon∙Lee Young-hee∙Kim Do-hyung) said on the 14th that it hired attorneys Shin Hyun-sik (27th Judicial Research and Training Institute class), Tae Ji-young (28th class), Park Chan-woo (42nd class), and Shin Eun-cheol (12th Bar Exam), as well as foreign attorney Kim Jeong-gyeom and expert advisor Yang Yong-gu.
Attorney Shin Hyun-sik is a corporations transaction expert with more than 25 years of practice in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity (PE), corporate restructuring, real estate∙infrastructure investment, and corporate governance∙compliance. After 18 years at Shin & Kim LLC, Shin served at DL Group as chief risk officer (CRO), head of legal, and chief compliance officer.
Shin oversaw DL Chemical's acquisition of Kraton in the United States and DL Group's transition to a holding-company structure. Shin also represented GIC∙Blackstone∙LaSalle∙Macquarie Asset Management in advising on investments in office∙logistics∙infrastructure asset.
Attorney Tae Ji-young mainly handled corporate criminal matters and investigations involving executives and employees of corporations, labor crimes, HR∙labor (discipline), and corporate advisory work. Tae served as a prosecutor from 1999 to 2004, then worked at law firms Chungjeong, Dongin, and Gwangjang. Tae served as Commissioner on the Ministry of Personnel Management's Appeals Review Committee and the Central Disciplinary Committee, and as a public-interest Commissioner in charge of adjudication at the Seoul Regional Labor Relations Commission. Tae is currently serving as an external Commissioner on the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) ordinary disciplinary committee and on the Certified Public Labor Attorney qualification review and disciplinary committee.
Attorney Park Chan-woo is an expert in intellectual property and technology, including patents∙trademarks∙trade secrets∙copyrights and system integration (SI) disputes. After graduating from the computer science department at Seoul National University, Park worked as an IT company engineer and as a patent attorney in the electrical∙electronic field. Park joined Barun after working at Lee & Ko.
Park handled numerous core disputes in technology-intensive industries, including mobile communications standard∙smartphone patent infringement litigation against a U.S. company on behalf of Korea's largest smartphone maker, and cases involving computer program copyright∙trade secret infringement by a semiconductor equipment company.
Foreign attorney Kim Jeong-gyeom has accumulated more than 25 years of experience in disputes, regulatory response, M&A, and government relations in the insurance and reinsurance sectors. After working at multinational insurers, reinsurers, and leading global law firms in New York and Seoul, Kim led insurance∙reinsurance practices at Kim & Chang, Gwangjang, and Shin & Kim. At Dentons Lee, Kim served as Head of Team for insurance∙reinsurance. In relation to the explosion at Lotte Chemical and LG Chem's Daesan plant, Kim jointly advised with a Singapore firm, representing excess reinsurers under a package policy to review the scope of coverage.
Expert advisor Yang Yong-gu is a hands-on major accident risk response specialist who has worked in industrial safety for more than 30 years. Since 1994, Yang has served at the Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency (KOSHA) as head of the Management Education Center, head Commissioner of the Regional Accident Investigation Center, and head of the Construction Health Department. Yang has joined Barun's major accident response center to provide practical technical defense strategies for CEOs when major accidents occur.
Attorney Shin Eun-cheol is a criminal specialist handling general criminal and corporate criminal cases, responses to police investigations, and anti-corruption∙financial and economic crimes. After graduating from the National Police University with a major in public administration, Shin gained frontline investigative experience on teams such as the economic crime investigation team, then joined Barun after working at law firm Dongin.
