South Chungcheong Province said on the 14th that it will provide an incentive of 500,000 won per person to steel corporations' workers based in Dangjin and to workers in related industries.
South Chungcheong Province was selected for the 2026 Beoteem Ieum Project, overseen by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL), securing 2 billion won in national funding. After Dangjin was designated as an "industrial crisis preemptive response area" on the 14th of last month, South Chungcheong Province drew up a support plan and applied for the "Beoteem Ieum Project."
Eligible recipients are incumbent workers facing job insecurity due to the downturn in the steel industry; workers at related companies that supply to steel corporations; and daily workers and freight transport workers in steel-related fields whose income has fallen due to decreased cargo volume. According to the province, there are an estimated 2,600 workers in related industries and about 1,000 freight transport workers.
Each eligible recipient will receive an incentive of 500,000 won per person. To boost local consumption, the entire amount will be paid in "Dangjin Love Gift Certificates."
Workers in related industries must apply directly for the incentive. The application channel will be built by the Dangjin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the project implementing agency, and applications will be accepted starting next month.
An official from South Chungcheong Province said, "We will focus all administrative capacity to prevent the crisis in Dangjin's steel industry from spreading across the local economy."
