A teenage brother and sister have been sent to trial after feeding their father sleeping pills to render him unconscious, then using his mobile phone to take out tens of millions of won in loans and withdraw money from his account.
According to legal sources on the 14th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Director General Lee Ho-seok) indicted Ms. A and her boyfriend, Mr. B, without detention on June 22 on charges of robbery and fraud by using a computer, among other devices. Ms. A's younger brother was sent to the juvenile division of the court on the same charges.
Prosecutors found that in 2024 they crushed sleeping pills prescribed at a hospital, mixed them into coffee, and had their father in his 40s drink it.
After the father fell asleep, they took his mobile phone, took out a loan of a little over 30 million won from a bank, and withdrew about 40 million won from the account to buy gold, it was found.
They resold the purchased gold to a gold shop for cash and were found to have used the money for skin care expenses and other costs.
The crime came to light after the father woke up, realized the children had disappeared from home, and filed a missing persons report with police.
Police located the siblings and Mr. B one day after receiving the report and questioned them. However, for the charge of fraud by using a computer, among other devices—related to taking out the loan using the mobile phone—police applied it only to Mr. B and sent him to prosecutors.
During the investigation, Mr. B said that Ms. A took part in giving sleeping pills to the father. But Ms. A denied it, saying she "never took part in the crime," and the younger brother also claimed, "My sister did not take part."
Police closed the case without any additional separate investigation, but prosecutors began a supplementary investigation in Nov. 2025 and confirmed that the siblings committed the crime together.
When prosecutors conducted a face-to-face interrogation of the siblings and Mr. B, the siblings said, "We crushed sleeping pills prescribed at a hospital and other substances, mixed them into coffee, and gave it to our father."
Prosecutors determined that after Ms. A rendered her father unable to resist with sleeping pills, taking his mobile phone and obtaining a loan constituted the crime of robbery. Accordingly, they sent Ms. A to trial along with Mr. B and referred the younger brother to the juvenile division.
