Uijeongbu High School's graduation photos, which wittily capture the year's key figures and trends every year, are again drawing a heated response online.
Uijeongbu High School's broadcasting club UHBS released some of the graduation photos taken by third-year students on social media (SNS) from the 12th to the 13th.
Students reinterpreted, in their own ways, celebrities and sports figures who drew attention over the year, characters from drama and films, and viral online content.
A representative image parodied Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's local meeting at Kkanbu Chicken. A student who transformed into Hong Myung-bo, the coach leading the Korea men's national soccer team, also drew attention.
Protagonists from hit drama series were also summoned into the graduation photos. Students recreated key characters from the Netflix drama "True Education" and the SBS drama "Chief Kim," using costumes, expressions, and props.
A photo mimicking the gyaru concept of Minami, a member of the girl group LUCENNE, was also released. Minami gained popularity with the catchphrase "Geoje, yahoo," and the student captured her signature style and vibe in the graduation photo.
Makeup drawing from films and animation continued. Some students portrayed Danjong and Eom Heung-do from the film "The King's Warden," which surpassed 10 million in admissions, and others transformed into Super Mario and characters from "Toy Story."
Uijeongbu High School's graduation photos became a hallmark tradition as students began parodying social issues and pop culture. Since 2009, the results have been posted online, drawing netizens' interest every year.
Some parodies have faced controversy over appropriateness, but the photos continue to make headlines as graduation portraits that creatively record the year's trends.
