Two teenage males accused of luring a middle school student into a building to produce sexual exploitation material were arrested by police.
The Seoul Gwanak Police Station said on the 13th that at about 8:21 p.m. on the 11th, it arrested a person surnamed Kim (19) and a person surnamed Park (19) in the act at a building in Gwanak District, Seoul, on suspicion of statutory rape of a minor and violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Youth against Sex Offenses.
Police said they launched a search after receiving a report from the victim's family that "the victim appears to be confined somewhere." After analyzing call records and tracking closed-circuit (CC)TV footage, officers identified the location where the suspects were staying and arrested them at the scene.
Based on evidence secured at the scene and statements from the suspects and the victim, police are investigating the specific course of the crime and whether sexual exploitation material was produced or distributed.
However, according to the investigation so far, there were no indications confirming that the elements of unlawful confinement were met, such as the victim's movement being physically restricted.
Police plan to seek arrest warrants for Kim and Park on the afternoon of the same day.
