LKB Pyeongsan Law Firm said on the 6th that it filed a class-action lawsuit (claim for damages) on behalf of victims of the Gyodongmyeonok mass food poisoning case against Gyodong F&B Co., the headquarters of Gyodongmyeonok.
According to LKB Pyeongsan, the incident occurred at Gyodongmyeonok Yongin Yeongdeok branch, which Gyodong F&B operates directly, during the Parents Day holiday period in May. It said some customers who visited the restaurant at the time or ate food via delivery suffered mass food poisoning.
Among the victims were elderly seniors, infants and toddlers, minors, and pregnant women, and some victims are experiencing critical symptoms such as acute renal failure, LKB Pyeongsan said.
LKB Pyeongsan formed a dedicated team to handle the class-action lawsuit over the Gyodongmyeonok food poisoning case, including attorney Jeong Won-du (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 34), attorney Song Si-hyeon (2nd bar exam), and attorney Kim Min-ho (3rd bar exam), and as the first round, it recruited 257 of all victims and filed the complaint with the Suwon District Court on the day.
LKB Pyeongsan said, "Even though some customers who visited the restaurant informed the restaurant of the occurrence of abnormal symptoms suspected of food poisoning, the restaurant forced operations, spreading the damage," and added, "Unlike previous food poisoning cases, heavy responsibility will be recognized."
LKB Pyeongsan said, "We plan to soon recruit victims for a second lawsuit," and noted, "Separate from the class action, we plan to hold them criminally liable for violations of the Food Sanitation Act and occupational negligence causing injury through a prompt criminal complaint."
