Kwon Chang-young's second special counsel team filed for an arrest warrant for former presidential office public discipline secretary Lee Si-won in connection with alleged outside pressure on the investigation into the death of Sgt. Chae.
On the 10th, the special counsel team sought an arrest warrant for the former secretary on suspicion of leaking official secrets.
The former secretary is suspected of having been informed in September 2023, when the on-duty death of the late Sgt. Chae Su-geun (then a private first class) occurred, that the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency planned a search and seizure, and of alerting the Marine Corps in advance.
At the time, the Korean National Police Agency's National Office of Investigation (NOI) was found to have conveyed a search and seizure plan for the 1st Marine Division to a staffer in the presidential office's public discipline secretary's office. After receiving the report, the former secretary informed an official at the Office of National Security, and the special counsel team suspects it was then relayed to the Marine Corps via the Ministry of National Defense.
