Police officers from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Mapo Police Station received commendations for managing crowds and maintaining order around Seoul's Hongdae area during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's visit to Korea.
According to police on the 9th, Seoul Metropolitan Police Commissioner Park Jeong-bo on the 6th awarded the Seoul Metropolitan Police Commissioner's commendation to Yoo Jong-cheol, senior superintendent at the Mapo Police Station, Kim Hyun-ik, sergeant, and Cho Eun-kyung, senior inspector at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
On the 5th of last month, CEO Huang had a "samso gathering" pairing samgyeopsal with soju near Hongdae with Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, Koo Kwang-mo, chairman of LG Group, and Lee Hae-jin, chair of Naver. They continued with a second round, a "chimaek (chicken and beer) gathering."
Director Yoo and others were recognized for deploying about 40 staff members and one riot unit to maintain order. In particular, it was reported that they dissuaded CEO Huang's party from going to karaoke for a second round by citing the case of the deadly crowd crush in the nightlife district of Itaewon.
Madison Huang, Huang's eldest daughter who accompanied him and is a senior director of product marketing for Nvidia Omniverse and Robotics, sent an email to Senior Superintendent Yoo, conveying thanks, saying, "Despite the unexpected crowd, the officers helped us technically."
