The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said it urgently convened a meeting to review response measures with related agencies on the 9th, chaired by Kim Gwang-yong, head of the Disaster Safety Management Office.
The meeting held at 7 a.m. that day followed heavy overnight rain centered on Daejeon, Sejong, Chungcheong, and North Jeolla, which caused various levels of facility damage. After an agency-by-agency response review at 3 a.m., rain of about 30–50 millimeters per hour continued. As a result, flood warnings were issued in Sejong and in Boeun and Cheongju, North Chungcheong.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters situation report, as of 5:20 a.m. that day, heavy rain warnings were in effect in eight areas in total: Daejeon, Sejong, Boeun and Cheongju in North Chungcheong, Gongju and Gyeryong in South Chungcheong, Imsil in North Jeolla, and Damyang in South Jeolla. Heavy rain advisories were also in effect in 51 areas including Gwangju in South Jeolla, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon. Eleven areas including Gangwon, South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, and North Gyeongsang were under a preliminary heavy rain alert.
From on the 8th to 5 a.m. that day, the highest accumulated rainfall was in Gyeryong, South Chungcheong, at 172 millimeters. It was followed by Buyeo in South Chungcheong (163.5 millimeters), Pyeongchang in Gangwon (148 millimeters), Wonju (147 millimeters), Daejeon (146 millimeters), Boeun in North Chungcheong (135.1 millimeters), and Cheongju (126.5 millimeters).
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) projected that rain will continue through the 10th, mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province.
Deputy Minister Kim Gwang-yong said, "With additional heavy rainfall following earlier precipitation, if even a small risk is detected, actively mobilize resident evacuation support teams to carry out preemptive evacuations," and added, "To minimize inconvenience from underpass and road closures during the Thursday morning commute, proactively inform the public about restrictions, and exercise particular caution for the safety of personnel in charge of resident evacuation support and inspection and monitoring duties."
