Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung visited the National Information Resources Service Daegu Center on the 8th to check the operating status of the administrative information system in connection with last year's fire and to inspect facility management to prevent a recurrence.
The Minister received a briefing on the current operation of safety management for the administrative information system on site and checked the progress of restoring facilities damaged by the fire in the Daejeon headquarters computer room and office space. In particular, the Minister closely examined the safety measures for lithium-ion batteries in the computer room, which can be a major cause of fires.
The Minister also inspected the status of establishing the disaster recovery (DR) system that enables swift service restoration in the event of a disaster, as well as progress in building a real-time data replication system between the Daejeon Center and the Gongju backup center.
The Minister also checked preparedness against the latest security threats, including the newly emerging, increasingly sophisticated cyberhacking threat "Mythos," and others.
The Minister said, "Crisis situations such as computer-room fires can lead to interruptions in administrative services that are directly connected to people's daily lives," adding, "There must not be even the slightest lapse in constant inspections of infrastructure and replacement of aging equipment." The Minister added, "Build the disaster recovery system as planned without delay so that immediate response is possible when a disaster occurs, and do your utmost to ensure the stable operation of information systems."
