In Mokpo, South Jeolla, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) fleeing a drunk driving checkpoint plunged into the sea. The driver, in his 40s, was taken to a hospital and died.
According to the South Jeolla-Gwangju Integrated Special City Fire Headquarters and the Mokpo Korea Coast Guard on the 5th, at about 8:29 p.m. on the 4th, an SUV driven by a driver in his 40s, identified only as A, plunged into the sea at the Dal-dong national security pier in Mokpo.
A fled to avoid a police base drunk driving checkpoint, rammed through a port security control fence, entered the pier and then fell into the sea.
A was rescued at the scene in cardiac arrest and taken to a hospital but died. The Korea Coast Guard and police are investigating the exact circumstances of the crash.
