Actor Song Hye-kyo and Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University are continuing efforts to raise awareness of independence movement sites that remain overseas.
On the 2nd, Seo said on social media that 10,000 copies of the guide "Stories of our history encountered overseas — Washington edition" were donated to the Korean Legation Building in Washington, D.C.
The guide was produced in Korean and English. It will be distributed on-site to visitors to the Korean Legation Building, and the original file can also be downloaded from the "Stories of our history encountered overseas" website.
The guide includes the locations, historical significance, and key activities of sites related to Korea's independence movement remaining around Washington, D.C., including the Korean Legation Building, the Korean Commission to America and Europe, and the Korean Commission in the United States.
With this donation of the Washington edition, the number of overseas cities where the Republic of Korea history guide has been distributed has increased to 11, including New York, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Mexico City.
Seo said, "The preservation status of independence movement sites of the Republic of Korea that remain overseas is not very good," adding, "Sustained public interest and visits will greatly help preserve overseas historical sites."
Song Hye-kyo and Seo have carried out various projects together over the past 15 years to promote overseas historical sites of the Republic of Korea. The two have donated Korean-language guides, Hangul signs, and relief works of independence activists to 40 related sites worldwide.
