Jeon Jae-soo, the Busan mayor, said on the 1st, "I will build a Busan that protects citizens' daily lives, a Busan that rises as a new growth axis of Korea, and a Busan where young people stay and return."
In his inaugural address that day, the mayor said, "Making Busan the maritime capital is not a choice but a survival strategy. I will make Busan a global hub where maritime, finance, and logistics converge," and stated accordingly.
Instead of an inauguration ceremony that day, the mayor first announced "100-day emergency measures for people's livelihoods." He said, "We will give breathing room to small business owners, the self-employed, and freight workers who are struggling with high interest rates and an economic downturn, and light up neighborhood commercial districts again," adding, "When citizens are in difficulty, the administration will be the first to reach out."
On the outflow of young people, he said, "The reason young people leave Busan is a lack of opportunities," adding, "We will link jobs, industries, housing, and opportunities so that young people can create bigger opportunities in Busan, and so that their dreams become Busan's future."
He also said, "We will build a city where people do not get hurt at work, a city where children can be raised with peace of mind, and a city where older adults can live comfortably in the familiar places of their lives," adding, "We will carefully look after and firmly support the peaceful daily lives of each and every citizen to build a safe and warm Busan."
He added, "With humility, we will work with the city council, the government, the National Assembly, and civil society to build an administration of dialogue and cooperation," and, "We will work and work again only for Busan and for its citizens."
