Yu Seung-ryeol, the acting head of the National Office of Investigation (NOI) at the Korean National Police Agency, emphasized that investigations must not be disrupted regardless of the leadership vacancy.
On the afternoon of the 1st, Acting Head Yu presided over a "national investigative command video conference" and said, "Police investigations have upheld the rule of law without wavering through an investigative system built over a long period and the capabilities of frontline investigators."
He added, "Through this system, the nationwide investigative command should work to create an environment where frontline investigative capabilities can be fully exercised," and "minimize public inconvenience through swift and fair case handling, and strictly uphold the fundamentals of investigations, including adherence to due process."
With the mandatory retirement of Park Seong-ju, the third head of the National Office of Investigation (NOI), the police "two-top" posts—the commissioner general of the Korean National Police Agency and the head of the National Office of Investigation (NOI)—have both shifted to acting leadership.
