The local government tax filing and payment service, which experienced disruptions during data conversion tied to the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City and the reorganization of Incheon's administrative system, returned to normal after 12 hours.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said the local government tax system service resumed at about 8:50 p.m. It said, "We are sorry we could not provide the service on the scheduled timeline," adding, "To ensure stable service, we will strengthen system checks and operations management to prevent a similar case from happening again."
The service, originally scheduled to resume at 9 a.m., encountered errors as data throughput on the local government tax system grew far more than expected and returned to normal operation after about 12 hours.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) extended the local government tax filing and payment deadline to the 3rd, considering that various public-facing services had been suspended twice since the end of last month due to the administrative system reorganization, but with the day's system normalization delayed, it re-extended the deadline to the 7th to prevent any disadvantage to the taxpayer.
Because of the disruption, services were affected including Wetax, the online local government tax filing and payment service, local government civil service counters and unmanned civil document kiosks, local government tax payments via Government24, and the issuance of various certificates.
An official at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) said, "Although the service has been restored, it did not operate during business hours today, so the extension of the local government tax filing and payment deadline remains in effect."
