Barun LLC signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Climate Change Center to expand responses to the climate crisis and sustainable management (ESG). As global ESG rules tighten, the aim is to combine policy research with legal advice to strengthen corporations' ability to meet regulations.
Barun said on the 1st that it signed an MOU with the Climate Change Center Foundation to strengthen policy and legal foundations for responding to the climate crisis and spreading sustainable management. Barun Managing Partner Lee Dong-hoon and Climate Change Center Chair Choi Jae-chul attended the signing.
Under the agreement, the two organizations will jointly promote legal and institutional reviews of climate response and sustainable management projects, risk response, analysis of domestic and overseas carbon neutrality and ESG regulatory trends, and legislative support. They also agreed to cooperate on joint research and groundwork for international cooperation projects.
They will also run training programs to improve legal professionals' understanding of the climate crisis and capacity to respond to ESG. Through the "Climate Change Leadership Academy," the two organizations plan to strengthen the legal community's expertise in carbon neutrality and ESG.
Barun Managing Partner Lee Dong-hoon said, "By combining the Climate Change Center's know-how with Barun's legal expertise, we will present effective legal and institutional solutions for responding to the climate crisis."
Climate Change Center Chair Choi Jae-chul said, "Starting with educational cooperation that broadens the legal sector's understanding of carbon neutrality, this will serve as an opportunity to solidify the domestic and international sustainable management ecosystem."
The Climate Change Center is Korea's first nonprofit private organization dedicated to climate change response, established in 2008. It has conducted policy research on responding to the climate crisis and raised awareness for a transition to a low-carbon society.
Barun launched a corporate strategy research institute last year and is expanding advisory services for ESG-related regulatory risk response. In addition to regulatory compliance across environment, society and governance, it is also running an ESG advisory package that supports building internal management systems for corporations and setting implementation strategies.
