Starting in Oct. this year, disaster text messages will expand from the current 90 characters to up to 157 characters. A duplicate review function for disaster texts will also be introduced.
According to "Changes starting in the second half of the year," which the government released on the 30th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to implement improvements to the nationwide disaster text service as follows.
The increase in character count is intended to go beyond simple warnings and provide guidance on specific disaster situations, action instructions, and evacuation locations.
The duplicate review function is also intended to improve convenience by addressing the problem of multiple agencies sending the same text repeatedly, thereby reducing duplicate alerts.
