The special investigation headquarters (Special Investigation Headquarters) for cases transferred from the three special counsels of the Korean National Police Agency said on the 30th that it sent Rep. Cho Eun-hee of the People Power Party to prosecutors without detention on charges including violating the Political Funds Act and the Personal Information Protection Act.
Cho is accused of providing the safe-number list for responsible party members to political broker Myung Tae-gyun during the primary process for the March 2022 parliamentary by-election, having him conduct a poll, and receiving the results for free. Myung was also sent without detention on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
At the time, Cho resigned as Seocho District mayor and ran in the by-election. After the primary, she won the nomination and was elected with 72.7% of the vote.
The case was transferred from the Kim Keon-hee special counsel team to the Special Investigation Headquarters. Police summoned Cho and Myung for questioning on the 9th and 18th, respectively.
