It was belatedly confirmed that the eldest daughter of Jensen Huang, chief executive officer (CEO) of Nvidia, who recently visited Korea, sent a thank-you message to Korean police.
According to police and others on the 29th, Madison Huang, senior director of product marketing for Nvidia Omniverse and Robotics, sent an email to Yoo Jong-cheol, Director of intelligence at the Mapo Police Station, saying she "wanted to express thanks for managing our visit."
Huang said, "Despite the unexpected crowds, the officers helped us expertly," and added, "We are truly grateful for the collaboration and assistance with our security team. CEO Huang is sincerely thankful that police kept the Korean public safe."
Director Yoo was in charge of crowd control on the 5th when CEO Huang held a "samso meeting" near Hongdae with Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group, Koo Kwang-mo, chairman of LG Group, and Lee Hae-jin, chair of Naver, pairing samgyeopsal with soju.
Because CEO Huang is not a government dignitary, there is no protection level stipulated by the Korean National Police Agency's security rules, but the Mapo Police Station judged that the risk of a crowd incident was high and deployed one riot unit and about 40 personnel.
Huang also indicated he wanted to go to a karaoke room for a second round, but police, citing the example of the deadly crowd crush in the nightlife district of Itaewon, dissuaded him, and the gathering continued at a nearby chicken-and-beer spot.
At the time, Director Yoo was offered a meal by a Nvidia representative, but declined on the grounds of being a public official. It is reported that, when asked at least to share an email address, he only handed over a business card.
