A man in his 70s who carried out a stabbing rampage at the Ilmin Museum of Art in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, will undergo a detention hearing on the afternoon of the 28th.
The Seoul Central District Court will hold a pretrial detention hearing (substantive warrant review) at 2 p.m. for A, a man in his 70s accused of attempted murder and preparing arson.
A is accused of stabbing and injuring B, an acquaintance in his 40s, with a sickle at the Ilmin Museum of Art in Jongno District, Seoul, at about 7:47 a.m. on the 26th.
Immediately after the crime, A fled by taxi through Samgakji in Yongsan District and Noryangjin in Dongjak District, and was later caught by police at an acquaintance's residence in Gwanak District.
Before the incident, A worked on cleaning-related duties in the area around the DONG-A ILBO building, and the victim, B, also worked in the building but reportedly submitted a resignation recently.
Police urgently arrested A about 10 hours after the incident. They also confirmed indications that A prepared arson before wielding the weapon and additionally applied the charge of preparing arson.
