As the weekend began, a series of mountain accidents occurred in Gangwon, with hikers collapsing or getting injured.
According to fire authorities and the Seoraksan National Park Office on the 27th, at about 3:05 p.m. a report was filed that a Polish woman in her 60s collapsed on a trail near the upper station of the Gwongeumseong cable car at Seoraksan Mountain. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital by the national park's special mountain rescue team and fire authorities but died.
Earlier, at about 7:53 a.m. near Oseam at Seoraksan Mountain in Yongdae-ri, Buk-myeon, Inje County, a hiker in their 30s injured an ankle and was rescued by helicopter.
At about 2:37 p.m., near Gwaneumam at Dongdae, Odaesan in Dongsan-ri, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang County, a hiker in their 70s fell and injured the head and other areas. The hiker descended with rescuers and was then transported to a hospital.
