The Korean Bar Association will hold a symposium titled "The current state and direction for improving the support system for legal services for North Korean defectors" at 2 p.m. on the 26th in the basement level 1 seminar room of the Korean Bar Association.
The symposium is intended to review the current state of legal support services for North Korean defectors and discuss problems in the current support system and directions for improvement. The goal is to establish a division of roles and a cooperation system among the Korean Bar Association, the Ministry of Unification, and the Ministry of Justice so that North Korean defectors can receive stable legal support.
The overall moderator of the symposium is Attorney Cho Jae-min of the Korean Bar Association's Committee on Legal Support for North Korean Defectors. In the first presentation, Attorney Jeon Gyu-hae of the nonprofit OnYul will address major issues, including the current state of legal support services for North Korean defectors, under the theme "The current state and problems of the delivery system for legal support services for North Korean defectors."
In the second presentation, Attorney Park Won-yeon of Law Firm Roberi is scheduled to propose ways to build a legal support system centered on a cooperation framework among the Korean Bar Association, the Ministry of Unification, and the Ministry of Justice, under the theme "Measures to improve the delivery system for legal support for North Korean defectors."
In the designated discussion that follows, Attorney Tae Won-woo of Law Firm Logos will serve as chair, and Section Chief Han Kyung-tae of the Ministry of Justice's Unification Legal Affairs Division, Section Chief Kim Sung-hwan of the Ministry of Unification's Self-Reliance Support Division, Director General Kim Sung-mo of the Korea Hana Foundation's Social Adaptation Department, and Attorney Kim Jung-yoon of Law Firm OYUN will participate as panelists to discuss ways to build a cooperation system among related agencies.
The Korean Bar Association said, "We hope this symposium will more systematically resolve the legal difficulties faced by North Korean defectors and, through close cooperation with related agencies, contribute to protecting their rights and interests, stability, and stable settlement in society."
