A decision will be made on whether to detain a woman in her 40s who spat at and hurled insults at a police officer on duty at a protest sealing off the ballot counting site at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
According to legal sources, the Seoul Eastern District Court will hold a pretrial detention hearing (warrant review) at 2:30 p.m. on the 25th for a person surnamed Kim (45), who is suspected of obstructing the performance of official duties, among other charges.
Kim appeared at the court at about 2:12 p.m. that day and did not answer reporters' questions asking, "Do you admit spitting at a police officer?" and "Do you admit the charge of obstructing the performance of official duties?" Kim only shouted, "Fraudulent election re-vote, hand count ballots on election day."
Kim is suspected of spitting at and insulting a police officer on the morning of the 23rd at Olympic Park Handball Arena in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
Kim also faces allegations of saying, "We need to investigate Chinese people's personal information," filming the faces of police officers stationed at the protest site with a cellphone without permission, and insulting police officers' families.
Police arrested Kim at the scene and applied for a detention warrant the previous day. Prosecutors requested the detention warrant from the court as applied for by police.
