The Central Investigation Bureau establishment task force under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 24th it selected Rene Square in Jung District, Seoul, as the site for the headquarters and the Seoul office.
The task force said it judged that using an independent building was appropriate in line with the intent to separate investigation and indictment. It said it then chose the location after reviewing accessibility and security among privately owned buildings available for lease and conducting on-site checks.
Rene Square is a new office building completed in May. It has seven basement floors and 17 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 60,393 square meters. It is a one- to two-minute walk to Euljiro 3-ga Station on Seoul Subway Lines 2 and 3.
How much the Central Investigation Bureau agreed to pay in rent was not disclosed. However, lease terms for Rene Square posted online by a real estate company show that renting a single floor on the top 17th floor requires a 2.08 billion won deposit and a 280 million won monthly rent.
The task force said that since reserve funds have been secured, it will immediately set up office space and build related facilities. It also said it will quickly choose locations for regional offices.
