An employee of a partner company who carried out a knife attack at an LG Electronics office has been indicted and will stand trial in custody.
According to legal sources on the 23rd, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office indicted a partner-company employee, a person surnamed Jeong, 60, on charges of attempted murder and sought to keep the person detained.
Jeong is accused of swinging a camping knife around 11 a.m. on the 27th at Science Park, the LG Electronics Magok business complex in Gangseo District, Seoul, on the second floor, seriously injuring two LG Electronics employees. The victims, a man in his 50s and a man in his 40s, were taken to a hospital with wounds to the side and arm, respectively, and are not in life-threatening condition.
Jeong said the victims habitually belittled the person and that anger over a dismissal notice led to the crime, but the investigation found there was no dismissal notice for Jeong.
It was found that the victims requested a change of duties because Jeong was struggling with the work, and Jeong took that as a dismissal notice.
In addition, an internal LG Electronics inquiry did not confirm any indication that the victims engaged in unfair conduct toward Jeong, such as workplace bullying, talking down, or disrespect.
