The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will directly investigate the case of a mother and son who died after suffering tens of millions of won in voice phishing losses in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 23rd, "For a more professional and swift investigation, we will transfer the case to the voice phishing task unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Violent Crime Investigation Unit and conduct the investigation."
On the 20th, a woman in her 50s, identified as A, and her son in his 20s, identified as B, were found dead in an apartment in Eumseong County. A note was found at the scene that said, "We had a hard time because of voice phishing losses." The loss from the voice phishing is estimated at 50 million won.
The case was filed with the Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul on the 6th, but the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Violent Crime Investigation Unit decided to take over to investigate more quickly.
Police explained that "it was confirmed that the entire amount of the victim's money was transferred to the e-wallet of an unidentified person through an overseas cryptocurrency exchange, and we are tracking the movement route."
