A man in a viral "Suwon drug zombie" video that spread on social media was taken into police custody. The video drew attention by showing a man reminiscent of the "fentanyl zombie" phenomenon that has been a problem in the United States.
On the 23rd, the Suwon Gwonseon Police Station said it urgently arrested a man in his 30s, identified as A, on suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
A is suspected of wandering near a bus stop by an apartment complex in Gwonseon District, Suwon, at about 12:30 p.m. on the 21st after taking methamphetamine.
A witness filmed A and posted the footage on social media, drawing attention. The video shows A hunched over, arms dangling, staggering side to side.
Police said they began looking into the case on their own at around 7 a.m. that day, analyzing nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and conducting other inquiries.
At about 10:30 a.m., officers spotted A near the scene, whose appearance was similar to the person in the video, conducted a rapid drug test, and, after a positive result for methamphetamine, arrested A.
No narcotics such as methamphetamine or fentanyl were found among A's belongings at the time of arrest, according to reports. Police are questioning A about where the drugs were obtained and when they were used and are considering seeking an arrest warrant.
