A U.S. citizen in his 30s who assaulted two U.S. Forces Korea service members he encountered on the street while drunk was taken into police custody.
On the 23rd, Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi booked for assault and is investigating A, a U.S. citizen in his 30s, on suspicion of punching two U.S. Forces Korea service members.
A is suspected of assaulting two men in their 20s affiliated with U.S. Forces Korea while drunk on a street in Sinjang-dong, Pyeongtaek, at about 6 a.m. on the 21st.
A was arrested at the scene as a flagrant offender by police who responded to a report at the time. A said there was no prior acquaintance with the victims and said A hit them because they ignored A and cursed at A.
The incident drew attention as a video of the crime scene spread on social media (SNS).
The video shows the burly A punching a victim once, sending the victim falling backward and unable to regain composure for a while.
A is known to have lived in Korea for an extended period while retaining U.S. nationality. Police plan to investigate A and the victims in detail to determine the full circumstances of the case.
