Kim Su-hong (Judicial Research and Training Institute class 35), Director of the Ministry of Justice's Prosecution Affairs Division, will lead a fact-finding team to investigate alleged abuses of prosecutorial investigative authority arising from cases including SSANGBANGWOOL's illegal remittances to North Korea and the Daejang-dong development scandal.
According to legal sources on the 23rd, Director Kim will serve as head of the fact-finding team under the Prosecutorial Human Rights Respect Future Committee (the Future Committee) starting on the 24th. The team will take over cases that the Future Committee has selected for investigation or additionally recommends in the future and carry out fact-checking and record reviews. An office has been temporarily set up at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office. There is also talk that it could later move to the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office.
Director Kim, who will lead the team, graduated from Seoul National University's law department and has held key posts including Director of Policy Planning at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, head of the Financial Investigation Department 1 at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office, and Director of the Ministry of Justice's Prosecution Affairs Division. In addition to Director General Kim, multiple prosecutors are expected to be seconded to the team.
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice launched the Future Committee on the 10th to, it said, clarify the facts of cases involving alleged human rights violations by prosecutors and abuses of prosecutorial power.
At its first meeting held the same day, the Future Committee selected seven items as the first subjects of investigation and recommended probing them: ▲ SSANGBANGWOOL's remittances to North Korea ▲ the Daejang-dong development scandal ▲ the case of former Korea Institute for Democracy Deputy Director Kim Yong ▲ the Wirye New Town case ▲ the shooting death of a West Sea public official ▲ the statistics manipulation case ▲ the alleged false reporting case of "defaming Yoon Suk-yeol." Of the seven, three involve President Lee Jae-myung.
