A Brazilian woman who broke into the home of Jungkook (28), a member of idol group BTS, and loitered around the house dozens of times was given a suspended prison sentence.
According to legal sources on the 23rd, Judge Park Ji-won of the Seoul Western District Court's Criminal Division 1 handed down a sentence of one year in prison, suspended for two years, on the 8th of last month to a Brazilian woman indicted and detained on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes and housebreaking.
Prosecutors said the woman was brought to trial on suspicion of stalking by visiting Jungkook's residence in Seoul 22 times from Dec. 7 to 28 last year to loiter or watch.
In particular, she is believed to have pressed the doorbell 133 times overnight and, on the evening of the 13th of the same month, slipped into the residence by taking advantage of a delivery worker coming and going.
The woman, who was arrested at the scene by police at the time, received an order banning her from approaching within 100 meters of Jungkook and his residence, but in January this year she again went to Jungkook's residence and left photos and printed materials.
Director General Judge Park said, "The defendant committed stalking crimes even after being arrested in the act, warned with a no-approach order during a police investigation, and then released," and noted, "The victim wants the defendant to be severely punished."
However, the court took into account as favorable circumstances that the crime appears to have been committed to convey feelings to Jungkook, there was no intent to cause harm, the degree of noncompliance with emergency measures was minor, and she did not enter the indoor living space.
In addition, the court determined that A would not pose a high risk of reoffending, as she has been detained for about three months over this case and will be forcibly deported once the verdict is finalized.
