A court rejected an arrest warrant for an on-duty police officer in his 30s who rammed a car into officers conducting a DUI checkpoint to evade enforcement.
According to Gimpo Police Station in Gyeonggi on the 22nd, a court dismissed the arrest warrant for Officer A of the Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency, who was booked on charges including obstructing special official duties resulting in injury.
After holding a warrant review on the 19th, the court was reported to have determined that there was no risk of evidence destruction or flight for A.
A is accused of ignoring an officer's order to stop during a DUI checkpoint and striking the officer with a car before fleeing on a road in Gurae-dong, Gimpo, at about 10:50 p.m. on the 10th.
A was also was found to have continued fleeing after crashing into a taxi along the escape route.
During the incident, a checkpoint officer in his 30s who tried to block A's vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police tracked A's whereabouts after the escape from the scene and arrested A at a home in Gimpo at about 2 a.m. the next day, roughly three hours after the incident. At the time of arrest, A's blood alcohol level was reportedly at a license-revocation level.
Police plan to refer A without detention as soon as they complete supplementary questioning.
