A man in his 30s who committed a second scam by infiltrating public group chat rooms for victims of investment fraud and other schemes was sentenced to four years in prison.
On the 22nd, the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 8 single-judge bench (Judge Kang Sung-young) sentenced A, 30, to four years in prison on fraud charges.
A is accused of deceiving eight fraud victims and taking about 390 million won from Apr. 30 to Dec. 7 last year.
He entered public chat rooms created by victims of investment fraud and similar schemes and took money and valuables with tactics such as saying, "If you pay a retainer fee, I will recover your losses."
A was found to have resumed scamming immediately after being released last year, having been sentenced in June 2023 to three years in prison and a fine of 1 million won for fraud.
The court said, "The defendant committed the same type of offense just one month after release," and noted, "By exploiting the desperate feelings of people who had already been victimized by crime and targeting them again, the culpability is very grave."
