The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 19th it will conduct an intensive crackdown on drunk driving across the Gangnam area during nighttime hours.
The crackdown will take place simultaneously at 18 locations in the Gangnam area, including Gangnam, Seocho, Suseo and Bangbae. A total of 249 officers from the traffic police, traffic mobile unit, traffic patrol unit and urban expressway patrol unit will be deployed along with 53 vehicles, including patrol cars and traffic motorcycles.
Gangnam Police Station recorded 798 drunk driving crackdowns last year, the most in Seoul. Traffic crashes involving drunk driving also occurred most frequently within the jurisdiction of Gangnam Police Station from 2023 to 2025.
Police have been carrying out a large-scale drunk driving crackdown centered on the Gangnam area since late last year. A police official said, "Drunk driving crashes are a serious crime," adding, "We will continue crackdowns to improve social awareness, foster a safe driving culture and maximize the effect of preventing crashes."
