A teenage middle school student who was driving without a license while carrying friends of the same age at midnight and caused a crash has been booked by police. A girl who was in the front passenger seat died while receiving hospital treatment from the crash.
According to police on the 16th, the Gwangju Seobu Police Station booked middle school student A on suspicion of causing death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and he is under investigation.
At about 1:10 a.m. on the 9th, A is suspected of driving a passenger car without a license on a road in Seogu, Gwangju, and crashing into a curb by the roadside, causing the passengers to die or be injured. From the impact, the car tipped onto its side.
At the time of the crash, five middle school students of the same age, including A, were in the car. From the crash, B, who was in the front passenger seat, was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, but died the day before while receiving treatment. A and the other passengers reportedly suffered minor injuries and received hospital treatment.
A reportedly drove a vehicle owned by a passenger's parents out of curiosity. A is under the age to obtain a driver's license and is said not to fall under the juvenile crime exception.
The occupants were not drinking at the time of the crash. As B died, police changed A's allegation from injury to death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents. Police are investigating A and the passengers to determine how the vehicle came to be driven and the exact cause of the crash.
