A court sentenced a man in his 20s, who killed after release from prison while deluded that his family had been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance of his mother, to 30 years in prison and ordered electronic location tracking for 20 years after release.
On the 16th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Wonju Branch of the Chuncheon District Court (Chief Judge Kim Ji-hyun) sentenced A, 27, who was arrested and indicted on charges including murder for killing a 44-year-old man at an apartment in Taejang-dong, Wonju, at around 4 p.m. on Jan. 16, to this term.
At the time, A went to victim B's home, beat and threatened his mother and confined her, then waited about two hours for B, who had left the house. After B returned home, A swung a weapon found inside the house and killed him.
A, who was serving a five-year prison term for a sex crime, became deluded that B had sexually assaulted the family and committed the crime after being released. B was identified as an acquaintance of A's mother.
A even used a private investigator to find B's home and, posing as a delivery worker, was found to have entered the victim's residence. Immediately after the crime, A turned himself in to police, saying, "I killed a person."
The court noted that A acknowledges the act itself and has no prior convictions related to murder, but, contrary to the claim that the victim was at fault, continues to insist on this without any material to support it, thereby defaming the deceased.
It added that it is hard to fathom the victims' suffering, the method of the crime was brutal, and multiple examinations indicated that A falls under antisocial personality disorder. It also determined that A has not been forgiven by the victim's side and poses a high risk of reoffending.
