Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party was notified to appear by the consolidated special counsel over allegations of obstructing the arrest of former President Yoon Suk-yeol but refused, it turned out.
The second consolidated special counsel team, which is currently investigating the remaining cases from the three special counsels (insurrection, Kim Keon-hee, death in the line of duty of a Marine), said at a regular briefing on the 15th that it had notified Na to appear on the 19th for questioning as a reference witness or a suspect regarding the alleged obstruction of former President Yoon's arrest.
However, Na's side said it would submit written answers. The special counsel said it would decide whether to summon her after reviewing the written answers.
Earlier, in Jan. 2025, when the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials attempted to execute an arrest warrant for former President Yoon, Na held a protest in front of the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, with about 40 People Power Party lawmakers and was later accused of obstructing official duties. However, the insurrection special counsel, which investigated the case, cleared them of the charges.
That day, the special counsel also said it had notified first lady Kim Keon-hee of questioning as a reference witness in connection with the "Deutsch Motors probe-shuttering allegations." However, Kim's side reportedly refused the summons, saying "we will not undergo questioning as a reference witness."
The Deutsch Motors probe-shuttering allegation is that the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, when disposing of the Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case, declined to indict Kim, who had been identified as an accomplice, without a proper investigation.
In connection with this, the special counsel summoned former Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office chief Lee Chang-su as a suspect and is under investigation today. In the afternoon, questioning of former fourth deputy chief prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Jo Sang-won is also scheduled.
The special counsel said, "However, so far there is no circumstance or evidence sufficient to book Kim as a suspect," adding, "We tried to question her regarding the so-called 'emperor-style questioning,' but she refused to appear, and we will let you know once it is decided how to proceed."
