Police have applied for an arrest warrant for Cha Ga-won, chair of the Piack Group and head of One Hundred Label, who is accused of fraud totaling about 30 billion won.
According to police on the 15th, the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency recently applied to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office for an arrest warrant for Cha on charges including fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.
Cha is accused of proposing a business using the intellectual property (IP) of affiliated entertainers and, after signing contracts, receiving a down payment of a little over 24 billion won but failing to actually carry out the business.
Cha is also accused of agreeing with an acquaintance to "enter into jeonse contracts for each other's dwellings," taking a 5.4 billion won deposit, and then failing to fulfill the contract on his side.
In April, police searched and seized Big Planet Made Entertainment, a subsidiary of One Hundred. On the 6th and 7th of last month, they questioned Cha as a suspect. Cha's side reportedly denied the allegations during the police questioning.
They also pushed back against the police's application for an arrest warrant. Cha's attorney said, "It is very regrettable that an application for a warrant was made when illegality was identified during the search and seizure process and even a quasi-appeal was filed," adding, "We will file a petition with the National Human Rights Commission to investigate whether there were human rights violations during the investigation."
