Oh Hyeon-gyu was substituted in for Son Heung-min (LAFC) in the 69th minute on June 12 at 11 a.m. Korea time in the Group A opener against the Czech Republic at Estadio Akron in Zapopan, Guadalajara, Mexico. Eleven minutes after coming on, in the 80th minute, he finished a low cross from Hwang In-beom (Feyenoord) to lead Korea to a 2-1 comeback win. It was his first goal in his World Cup finals debut and the winner.
After the match, attention also turned to Oh's family. Oh's parents run a mudfish soup restaurant in Hopyeong-dong, Namyangju, Gyeonggi. Of course, messages of support for Oh also followed. In the restaurant's review section, posts read, "Without the owner's mudfish soup, this result wouldn't have happened," "I haven't tried it, but it's delicious," and "Thanks to the parents and family of Oh, who raised a player with character as outstanding as his skill."
Online users are voicing strong criticism of the malicious reviews. On the internet, reactions included, "What does a player's match result have to do with the parents' restaurant?"
