A man in his 60s who was appearing at a police station to be questioned on suspicion of drunk driving and driving without a license was again arrested in the act after driving a car without a license.
Gwangju Seobu Police Station said on the 15th it had sought an arrest warrant for a man in his 60s, identified as A, on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act. A is accused of driving his sport utility vehicle (SUV) without a license to a parking lot near Gwangju Seobu Police Station around 2 p.m. the previous day to undergo police questioning on suspicion of drunk driving and driving without a license.
A was caught driving without a license while drunk on a road in Ssangchon-dong, Seo District, Gwangju, at about 8:50 p.m. on the 20th of last month. At the time, A's blood alcohol level was reportedly at the license suspension threshold.
Police, believing A might drive without a license again, staked out the area around the police station on the day of his appearance. When A drove himself to near the station, police arrested him in the act.
A previously received a suspended prison sentence for drunk driving and is currently within the suspension period, according to reports. A reportedly has four prior drunk driving offenses.
Police also confirmed that A habitually drove without a license about 20 times over roughly the past 50 days. Citing the risk of reoffending and the seriousness of the case, police sought an arrest warrant for A and seized the vehicle used in the crime.
